Happy New Year and Welcome to 2018!
Bring on 2018! Here’s to a crazy yet wonderful new year!
This is one of my favourite times of year…ok wait…I, in general, like almost every day of the year, being an easy going person, but don’t get me wrong I do have my off days. Most of my family and friends who know me would tell you I am very optimistic and a very happy go lucky girl! I firmly believe that there is so much to life. I do not believe in luck, I believe in creating your own luck.
2018 Motto 01 – ”When you put something good into the world, something good comes back to you” – Merle Shain
Seeing as it is a New Year, I often find myself taking the time to reflect on the past year in order to get myself ready and focus on what lies ahead. My daily routine is to plan out my day, which includes writing out my goals and dreams in that moment. Writing them out makes my hopes of them becoming a reality greater and far more tempting to achieve.
2017 was a huge year for me, I never thought I would “conquer” so much and grow to this degree as a person, in just 365 days. I enjoy the feeling of being independent and the new found responsibilities of adulthood helps me stay motivated and determined to do life at 150%.
My 2017 Achieved Goals:
My First Move
2017 – the year I put my big girl panties on and moved out of my mommy and daddy’s nest. I have to state that I am an only child and being parted from my parents was HUGE for me! This was the first time I had ever moved houses in my life and anyone who has done it knows it’s one giant leap and requires an adjustment period. (I mean who knew that toothpaste and toilet paper actually run’s out???) We are now 8 months down the line and admittedly I still phone my parents almost every day just to hear their voices and talk about our daily “going on’s”.
Moving houses or should I say moving into my first flat however was definitely not all reality checks and mayhem, which is owed to my incredible boyfriend. With him by my side, the move itself and feeling settled was a breeze! I LOVE living with my man and being able to come home to him and “Ons Huisie.” I am excited by what is yet to come for us…
Halfway through 2017, I was in a job that made me feel comfortable and secure. I truly enjoyed working there and being around such amazing people…but as life would have it I took yet another leap of faith to pursue a new career opportunity that came my way. The goosbyes were tough and the change was scary…especially when you feel so “at home” with your current position and company. I was excited to make this move, as this new venture would hand me new challenges and endless possibilities for me to grow. Looking back, it is one of the best decisions I have made for myself and my career.
One of my biggest life lessons of 2017 is that listening to my gut instinct and my heart will never let me down… taking the risk to push yourself out of your comfort zone often brings the greatest rewards
My First Car!
I have always wanted my very own car (and wanted to buy it for myself), so after passing my license in 2016 I made it my financial mission to save as hard as possible to achieve this. I had been borrowing cars from family members and using the MyCiti Bus to get around from point A to B, but this quickly became a bit of a mission. After I moved jobs, I was able to budget properly and FINALLY my dream started becoming my reality – I could afford it. I am incredibly blessed and overwhelmed by the support I had received from my family, friends and work colleagues. They all assisted me in different ways and guided me through the process – couldn’t have done it without them. (You know who you all are)
I can now say, I am the proud owner of a shining metalic Kia Picanto. My baby, named Pixie Girl, drives so smoothly and gets me places I never thought I’d get to!
To Continue Learning
This is lifelong goal for me in all honesty, every year, every week and everyday. I loving learning new things every day. My latest “personal trend”, is to write down what I have learnt in my diary…as I go along. This makes the lessons a whole lot more rewarding. It amazes me how even the smallest of these “teachings” often have the biggest impacts on my life.
Furthermore to general life lessons, I started a fantastic Digital marketing course with Google last year. Back in 2015 I did a Digital Marketing course with GetSmarter, but I love constantly keeping up to date with what is going on in the digital word and I continue to learn so many new things as this industry expands! 2018 is a brand new year and it is my mission to complete this course – any maybe take on more? Who can say?
Being More Active
This was a BIGGIE for me to tackle in 2017, and I kind of achieved it. Swimming is my passion, I am a water baby my heart and the sport is one of the only exercise regimes that pushes me and assists to release a lot of built up stress and anxiety that comes with being a adult…I was ecstatic when I finally got back into the water after almost 6 years of not having done it. I began training in late November and have not stopped since. This impacts me positively and I owe it to myself to pursue this goal and keep it up.
My 2018 plan of action looks something like this….I try take part in a parkrun every Saturday, release my stress with swim training twice a week and after finding my strength in this, I will look at participating in at least two swimming races/events.
Grow My Blog
One of my most interesting and challenging goals for 2018 is to spend more time working on my blog. I began my blogging journey in 2017 but soon began slacking as I had to balance my time with my full time job.
Writing, discovering new topics, and experiences to share is what I am loving. I am just me, you get what you see. My journey, lessons and goals along the way I hope, will encourage more people to reach for the stars. It is never too late to pursue a dream, you feel so passionate about. There is no better time than the present to make it happen. I am not preaching, but rather sharing a positive message on keeping your chin up and taking every lesson in life (be it good, bad or ugly) as an opportunity to grow as a person.
I wish you, all the happiness and success that 2018 will bring for you! Let’s start achieving those goals!
